NIRVANIX ANNOUNCES GENERAL AVAILABILITY OF ITS STORAGE DELIVERY SERVICE

Video/Audio Transcoding, Image Manipulation, File Search, and Ruby Gem also available

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – October 10, 2007 – After successful testing at more than 80 beta customer sites, Nirvanix today announced general availability of its Storage Delivery Service optimized for media applications. Nirvanix also announced beta availability of its integrated media transcoding, image manipulation, and file search services, which further enable developers to shorten time-to-market for rich media applications.

New Functionality: Media Transcoding, Image Manipulation and File Search

With the general availability of its Storage Delivery Service, Nirvanix is also introducing new beta functionality and additional developer support:

• Media Transcoding: Two new web service API methods, one for video and one for audio, allow developers to take media files stored in the system in a particular format and create new files in different formats or codecs. For example, the end-user of a Nirvanix-enabled application could upload a high-definition video from her home and later view it on her cell phone or PDA at a lower frame rate, smaller size, and different codec or file format.
• Image Manipulation: In addition to providing a method to resize images, Nirvanix is introducing new methods for rotating and flipping those images. Now, Nirvanix eliminates the complexity and processing required to create web photo albums with thumbnails and rotated/flipped pictures.
• File Search: This service is implemented with three new API calls that allow programmers to search for files based on file system, metadata, or tag information. Developers can locate files for end-users without the cost of downloading them or the complexity of storing metadata to search locally.
• Sideloading: Similar to uploading, sideloading allows files to be uploaded to the Nirvanix system directly from a hosted URL. Instead of having to download a file from its original location on the web to a client and then uploading it to Nirvanix, applications can direct Nirvanix to directly upload the file from its original location on the web. This single transfer is faster, simpler, and saves on bandwidth costs.
• Ruby Gem: In addition to having reference applications and SDKs available for the most popular development environments, Nirvanix now offers a new nvx-sds gem library to the Ruby community to accelerate development. The library showcases integration of Ruby applications to the Nirvanix SDS, including the ability to fully manage files and folders, perform account operations, and manage metadata/tags.
