Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) are great for delivering content to very large audiences (tens of thousands to millions of viewers) however, they are not a cost effective solution for permanently storing large media libraries. Consequently, many content providers continue to manage their own storage data centers and provide origin storage when CDNs don’t have a specific piece of content cached known as a “cache miss”. The Nirvanix Storage Delivery Network provides the perfect solution.
The Solution
The Nirvanix Storage Delivery Network is grid of globally distributed storage nodes that intelligently store and deliver media to/from the closest node based upon the geographic location of the user. The system is powered by Nirvanix’s proprietary Internet Media File System that manages the storing of data in a clustered file system under one global namespace.
Instant Integration
A variety of ingestion tools are offered to migrate your existing media library including an ftp proxy, a CIFS/NFS logical drive mount and a standards based API (the Nirvanix Web Service API). Large media libraries are also supported via Nirvanix’s cross connect service that allows the direct connection of a high-speed line into one of Nirvanix’s various storage nodes. Nirvanix also offers scripts that automatically migrate content from Nirvanix storage to your CDN (Akamai or Limelight) for delivery to large audiences.
